The Maryland Child Alliance is an advocacy organization fighting to reduce and eventually eliminate child poverty in the state of Maryland and beyond. We believe that people are the experts of their own lives and that cash transfers are the most efficient way for families to fulfill their needs.

Maryland Poverty Statistics

  • Across the state of Maryland 15 percent of children live in poverty.

  • 4 percent of kids live in deep poverty, meaning their family income is less than half their poverty threshold

  • Marylanders of color are nearly twice as likely as White residents to be in poverty

  • Poverty is concentrated in our urban centers. In Baltimore, 1 in 3 kids live in poverty.
